This hand knotted wool Turkish Oushak rug features a large-scale Herati pattern spread across an abrashed buff field. The Classic Herati pattern, also known as the mahi or fish pattern, is amongst the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. In most rugs, the motif appears as a repeated small-scale pattern, but in this Turkish Oushak rug, the central motif fills the entire field with a variety of floral embellishments. Simple boteh and cross guard borders flank the wide main border featuring large palmettes connected by rectilinear vines.
