This impressive vintage Berber Moroccan rug features a mihrab-like niche pattern with colorful symbolism throughout the centre field and border on three sides. A mustard yellow medallion filled with two eight-pointed star motifs, male rods, a lozenge made up of smaller diamonds and an expanding checkered lozenge near the top of the mihrab niche, representing religious trances, male and feminine forms, respectively. The abrashed dark orange field is composed of two large lozenges made from smaller diamonds floating on a hot-pink background and surrounded by a stair-step border outlined in black. Eight-pointed stars also appear in the border in multi-color square planes. Male presence is symbolized by the fish-skeleton motifs and zigzag designs flanking the centre medallion.
